Background
The cast-iron railing by Kurt Moritz Gossenreiter, dated 1972, is on the left side of the Kirchenfeld bridge in Bern. The bridge runs from Casinoplatz in the old town to Helvetiaplatz in the Kirchenfeld quarter. In 1972 light-metal railings replaced the cast-iron parapets on the bridge. A night-time action by Gossenreiter kept part of the original railing in place, and the authorities later accepted it. Some 55 cm of the original railing still survive opposite the Kunsthalle.
