Background
The memorial stone “Louis William Gabus (1847-1901), Begründer und Gönner des 1937 eröffneten Tierparks” is a stone memorial with an inlaid metal relief and stands in the Tierpark Dählhölzli in Bern. The zoo opened on 5 June 1937. Gabus was a watchmaker born in Le Locle in 1847. In 1900 he left the City of Bern a bequest of 150,000 francs for a zoo. This gift helped secure the funding for the project.
