Personalities of Bernese History

Artist
Robert Dorer
Year
1871
Location
Berner Kantonalbank, Bundesplatz

Background

The “Persönlichkeiten der Berner Geschichte” are eight sandstone statues that were placed on the outside of the Berner Gesellschaftsmuseum in 1871. That building is now the seat of the Berner Kantonalbank at Bundesplatz 8. The figures show personalities from Bern’s past, including statesmen and warriors. The statues are by the sculptor Robert Dorer, who was born in Baden in 1830. Dorer was also a Swiss sculptor and medallist.
