Background
“Verschiedene Porträtköpfe” is a concrete work by Walter Kretz from 1979 on a pier of the Monbijou bridge, on the play lawn of the Marzili pool in Bern. Kretz, born in Steckborn in 1942, is a Swiss sculptor and painter. In 1979 he worked with other artists at the Marzili workshop site on a concrete shrine for the centenary of the Kunstmuseum Bern. The Monbijou bridge links the Monbijou quarter with Kirchenfeld across the Aare and was opened in 1962. The Marzili is an open-air swimming pool on the Aare, in the quarter of the same name.
