Background
The Davidbrunnen, a fountain of Solothurn limestone dated 1846, stands on the forecourt of the pharmacy at Bernstrasse 72 in Bümpliz and was designed by Gottlieb Hebler. Hebler, born in Bern in 1817, worked as an architect, patron and politician. In 1846 he planned a Gothic-style fountain for the upper Spitalgasse to replace the older Davidbrunnen. After it was demolished at its old site, the fountain was set up again in Bümpliz in 1919, when the village became part of Bern.
