Background

The untitled work by Max Fueter was made in 1936 from shell limestone and stands at the Bremgarten Cemetery in Bern, at the end of section B4 near the Troesch grave. Fueter (1898–1983) worked as a sculptor, draughtsman and watercolourist. In 1938 the City of Bern announced a competition for a fountain, and Fueter won it with his design. The Bremgarten Cemetery opened in 1864 near the Inselspital and replaced the Monbijou cemetery. Today it is the second-largest cemetery in the city.
