Background
The mosaic “Space Invader”, made of mosaic tiles, is on the façade at the corner of Speichergasse and Bollwerk in Bern. It dates from around 2000 and is by the French street artist Invader. Invader is a pseudonymous artist whose ceramic tile mosaics recall the pixel art of 1970s and 1980s video games. His first mosaics were made in Paris during the 1990s. He often places his mosaics in places of cultural or historical importance, and the sites are usually chosen for visibility, local interest and symbolism.
