Background
“Loubegaffer” (1984) by Sandro Del-Prete is an inversion statue made of various materials, located in the Christoffel underpass at Bern railway station. Del-Prete, born in Bern in 1937, became best known for paintings of optical illusions. The face is hollowed inwards yet appears to bulge outwards. Before that, the statue had a hidden existence in a remote corner of the main station; in 2007, during the rebuilding of the underpass, it was moved to a better spot. It is also recorded in the City of Bern's inventory of public art.
