Background

The wall painting with portraits of Albrecht von Wattenwyl and Wilhelmine von Erlach dates from around 1757 and is located in the council chamber of the Erlacherhof at Junkerngasse 47 in Bern. The Erlacherhof is a late Baroque town palace in the Old Town, built between 1745 and 1752. Hieronymus von Erlach commissioned it, and Albrecht Stürler is probably the one who carried out the construction. Since then the building has housed parts of the city administration, and it is also the seat of Bern's mayor. The council chamber is on the ground floor.
