Background
“Wand Bild” by Shirana Shahbazi (2025–2027) is a work of coloured ceramic tiles in the stairwell of the Wylergut schoolhouse at Dändlikerweg, 3014 Bern. Shahbazi first studied photography in Dortmund and then in Zurich until 2000. The work replaces a mural from 1949 in the Wylergut schoolhouse. That mural is regarded as problematic because of its racist and colonialist character. The school's pupils are to complete the new work over three years. In 2020 she created a geometric installation of ceramic tiles on the building site of the Swisscom tower in Ostermundigen.
