What this app does

Playgrounds in Bern with water and toilets

Every playground in Bern with the distance to the nearest drinking fountain and toilet, on one map. For an afternoon without going home. Free, no tracking.

Playground plus shows every playground in the city of Bern on a map, together with the distance to the nearest drinking fountain and the nearest toilet. The city knows its playgrounds, but parents need the combination: playground, water, toilet. That way you can plan an afternoon outdoors without having to go home in between.

The data comes from OpenStreetMap. The map precomputes the distances from three datasets: playgrounds, drinking fountains and toilets. They are given as the straight-line distance; the walking route is usually a little longer. Playgrounds with drinking water within 150 metres are marked green, the others orange.

Tap “Nearest playground”: the app asks for your location, shows the nearest playground and calculates the walking route with the walking time in minutes. “Route” opens the way in Google Maps, “Route in OSM” in OpenStreetMap. With the filters at the top you can show all playgrounds or only those with water nearby. Tapping a dot shows the name, if recorded, and the distances to drinking water and a toilet, for example at Spielplatz Dählhölzli, Spielplatz Monbijoupark or Spielplatz Rosengarten.

There is no tracking: only the routing service gets your location, for the walking route. If a playground is missing or a detail is wrong, it can be fixed directly in OpenStreetMap.
