About us
In Berner Küchen landet jeden Tag gutes Essen im Abfall. Und ein paar Strassen weiter hat jemand Hunger. Das wollen wir ändern – ohne grosse Worte, Schritt für Schritt.
Chaque jour, dans les cuisines bernoises, de la bonne nourriture finit à la poubelle. Et quelques rues plus loin, quelqu’un a faim. C’est ce que nous voulons changer – sans grands discours, pas à pas.
Ogni giorno, nelle cucine di Berna, del buon cibo finisce nella spazzatura. E qualche strada più in là, qualcuno ha fame. È questo che vogliamo cambiare – senza grandi parole, passo dopo passo.
Every day, good food ends up in the bin in Bern’s kitchens. And a few streets away, someone is hungry. That is what we want to change – without big words, step by step.

Who we are
übrig ist ein kleiner Verein aus Bern. Gegründet hat ihn ein Koch, der das Ende einer Schicht kennt: Die Küche ist geputzt, und trotzdem ist noch Essen da, das niemand mehr bestellt. Zusammen mit Freiwilligen bauen wir übrig, damit dieses Essen dort ankommt, wo es gebraucht wird.
übrig est une petite association bernoise. Elle a été fondée par un cuisinier qui connaît la fin d’un service : la cuisine est propre, et pourtant il reste des plats que plus personne ne commandera. Avec des bénévoles, nous construisons übrig pour que cette nourriture arrive là où on en a besoin.
übrig è una piccola associazione di Berna. L’ha fondata un cuoco che conosce la fine di un turno: la cucina è pulita, eppure resta del cibo che nessuno ordinerà più. Insieme a dei volontari costruiamo übrig, perché quel cibo arrivi dove serve.
übrig is a small association from Bern. It was founded by a cook who knows the end of a shift: the kitchen is clean, and yet there is still food that nobody will order. Together with volunteers we are building übrig so that this food reaches the people who need it.
Den Verein haben wir am 18. Oktober 2026 in Bern gegründet. Er ist nicht gewinnorientiert und politisch wie religiös neutral.

What we do
Essen weitergeben. Einwandfreies gekochtes Essen, das nach dem Service in Restaurants und Kantinen übrig bleibt, holen wir ab und bringen es mit dem Lastenrad zu sozialen Einrichtungen, die Menschen in schwierigen Lagen verpflegen – zum Beispiel Notschlafstellen. Für Küchen und Einrichtungen ist das gratis.
Transmettre la nourriture. Les plats cuisinés en parfait état qui restent après le service dans les restaurants et les cantines, nous les récupérons et les apportons à vélo-cargo à des institutions sociales qui nourrissent des personnes en difficulté – par exemple des hébergements d’urgence. C’est gratuit pour les cuisines comme pour les institutions.
Passare il cibo. I piatti cucinati in perfetto stato che restano dopo il servizio in ristoranti e mense li ritiriamo e li portiamo in bici cargo a strutture sociali che danno da mangiare a persone in difficoltà – per esempio dormitori d’emergenza. Per le cucine e le strutture è gratuito.
Passing food on. Good cooked food that is left after service in restaurants and canteens is collected and taken by cargo bike to social facilities that feed people in difficult situations – emergency shelters, for example. It is free for kitchens and facilities alike.
Bärn Kit. Kleine Gratis-Werkzeuge für alle in Bern: Abfallkalender, freie Plätze in Parkhäusern, Grillstellen, Trinkbrunnen, Kunst in der Stadt und vieles mehr. Ohne Konto, ohne Werbung, ohne Tracking.
Bärn Kit. De petits outils gratuits pour tout le monde à Berne : calendrier des déchets, places libres dans les parkings, foyers pour grillades, fontaines d’eau potable, art dans la ville et bien plus. Sans compte, sans publicité, sans pistage.

Erklären. Wir zeigen, wie man Essen sicher weitergibt und weniger wegwirft – mit Plakaten zum Ausdrucken, Checklisten und kleinen Aktionen.
Expliquer. Nous montrons comment transmettre la nourriture en toute sécurité et en jeter moins – avec des affiches à imprimer, des listes de contrôle et de petites actions.
Spiegare. Mostriamo come passare il cibo in modo sicuro e sprecarne meno – con manifesti da stampare, liste di controllo e piccole iniziative.
Explaining. We show how to pass food on safely and waste less of it – with posters to print, checklists and small events.

Where we are
Ehrlich gesagt: übrig fährt noch nicht. Bis jetzt hat noch keine Küche Essen über uns weitergegeben. Von Februar bis Mai 2027 testen wir es mit ein bis zwei Küchen und einer sozialen Einrichtung. Wenn das gut läuft, kommen fünf bis zehn Küchen dazu. Bärn Kit dagegen läuft schon – jeden Tag.
Pour être honnêtes : übrig ne roule pas encore. Jusqu’ici, aucune cuisine n’a transmis de nourriture par notre intermédiaire. De février à mai 2027, nous le testons avec une ou deux cuisines et une institution sociale. Si tout se passe bien, cinq à dix cuisines suivront. Bärn Kit, en revanche, fonctionne déjà – tous les jours.
A dire il vero: übrig non è ancora partito. Finora nessuna cucina ha passato cibo tramite noi. Da febbraio a maggio 2027 lo proviamo con una o due cucine e una struttura sociale. Se va bene, se ne aggiungeranno da cinque a dieci. Bärn Kit invece funziona già – ogni giorno.
To be honest: übrig is not on the road yet. So far, no kitchen has passed on food through us. From February to May 2027 we will test it with one or two kitchens and one social facility. If that goes well, five to ten kitchens will follow. Bärn Kit, on the other hand, is already running – every day.

Warum heisst ihr übrig?
Weil es um das Essen geht, das nach dem Service übrig bleibt – und darum, dass es nicht im Abfall landet.
Pourquoi vous appelez-vous übrig ?
Parce qu’il s’agit de la nourriture qui reste après le service – « übrig » veut dire « restant » en allemand – et de faire en sorte qu’elle ne finisse pas à la poubelle.
Perché vi chiamate übrig?
Perché si tratta del cibo che avanza dopo il servizio – “übrig” in tedesco vuol dire “avanzato” – e di fare in modo che non finisca nella spazzatura.
Why are you called übrig?
Because it is about the food that is left over after service – “übrig” means “left over” in German – and about keeping it out of the bin.
Gibt es das nicht schon?
Für Lebensmittel schon, zum Beispiel Schweizer Tafel und Tischlein deck dich. Gekochtes Essen, das schnell weiter muss, nehmen sie aber in der Regel nicht. Genau diese Lücke wollen wir füllen.
Ça n’existe pas déjà ?
Pour les denrées alimentaires, oui, par exemple Table Suisse et Tischlein deck dich. Mais en général, ils ne prennent pas les plats cuisinés qui doivent partir rapidement. C’est précisément ce manque que nous voulons combler.
Non esiste già?
Per gli alimenti sì, per esempio Tavola Svizzera e Tavolino Magico. Ma di solito non prendono i piatti cucinati che devono partire in fretta. È proprio questa lacuna che vogliamo colmare.
Doesn’t this exist already?
For groceries, yes – for example Schweizer Tafel and Tischlein deck dich. But they usually don’t take cooked food that has to move on quickly. That is exactly the gap we want to fill.

Was kostet das ein Restaurant?
Nichts. Küchen zahlen nichts dafür, dass sie Essen weitergeben, und Einrichtungen zahlen nichts für das Essen. Wir verkaufen kein Essen. Das Geld für Lastenrad, Boxen und Thermometer suchen wir bei Stiftungen, Spenderinnen und Spendern und Sponsoren.
Combien ça coûte à un restaurant ?
Rien. Les cuisines ne paient rien pour donner leur nourriture, et les institutions ne paient rien pour la recevoir. Nous ne vendons pas de nourriture. L’argent pour le vélo-cargo, les boîtes et les thermomètres, nous le cherchons auprès de fondations, de donatrices et donateurs et de sponsors.
Quanto costa a un ristorante?
Niente. Le cucine non pagano nulla per dare il cibo e le strutture non pagano nulla per riceverlo. Non vendiamo cibo. I soldi per la bici cargo, i contenitori e i termometri li cerchiamo presso fondazioni, donatrici e donatori e sponsor.
What does it cost a restaurant?
Nothing. Kitchens pay nothing to pass food on, and facilities pay nothing for the food. We don’t sell food. We look for the money for the cargo bike, boxes and thermometers from foundations, donors and sponsors.
Welches Essen nehmt ihr?
Gekochtes Essen aus der Küche, das einwandfrei ist und nie bei den Gästen stand: heiss (mindestens 65 °C) oder gekühlt (höchstens 5 °C), in einem sauberen, verschlossenen Behälter, mit Etikett und allen Allergenen. Nicht nehmen wir Reste vom Buffet oder von Tellern, angebrochene Portionen, Gerichte mit rohem Ei, rohem Fisch oder rohem Fleisch, lauwarmes Essen und Essen aus Privathaushalten.
Quels plats prenez-vous ?
Des plats cuisinés en parfait état, qui sortent de la cuisine et ne sont jamais allés en salle : chauds (au moins 65 °C) ou réfrigérés (au plus 5 °C), dans un récipient propre et fermé, avec une étiquette et tous les allergènes. Nous ne prenons pas les restes du buffet ou des assiettes, les portions entamées, les plats à base d’œuf, de poisson ou de viande crus, la nourriture tiède ni la nourriture des ménages privés.

Which food do you take?
Cooked food from the kitchen that is in perfect condition and never went out to the guests: hot (at least 65 °C) or chilled (at most 5 °C), in a clean, closed container, with a label and all allergens. We don’t take leftovers from the buffet or from plates, opened portions, dishes with raw egg, raw fish or raw meat, lukewarm food or food from private homes.

Ein paar Minuten am Ende der Schicht: sieben kurze Fragen mit Ja beantworten, eintragen, was es ist und wie viel, und das Etikett auf den Behälter kleben. Abholen und bringen machen wir.
Combien de travail cela représente-t-il pour la cuisine ?
Quelques minutes en fin de service : répondre « oui » à sept courtes questions, noter ce que c’est et la quantité, et coller l’étiquette sur le récipient. La collecte et la livraison, c’est nous.
Quanto lavoro è per la cucina?
Pochi minuti a fine turno: rispondere “sì” a sette brevi domande, annotare che cos’è e quanto, e incollare l’etichetta sul contenitore. Al ritiro e alla consegna pensiamo noi.
How much work is it for the kitchen?
A few minutes at the end of the shift: answer “yes” to seven short questions, note what it is and how much, and stick the label on the container. We do the pick-up and delivery.
Ist das Essen sicher?
Das ist uns am wichtigsten. Das Essen bleibt heiss oder kalt, fährt auf direktem Weg in Thermoboxen und wird nicht gelagert. Jede Übergabe halten wir mit Temperatur und Uhrzeit fest, und die Einrichtung wärmt das Essen vor dem Servieren auf mindestens 72 °C auf. Vor der ersten Fahrt melden wir uns beim Kantonalen Laboratorium Bern an.
La nourriture est-elle sûre ?
C’est ce qui compte le plus pour nous. La nourriture reste chaude ou froide, voyage par le chemin le plus court dans des boîtes isothermes et n’est jamais stockée. Nous notons chaque remise avec la température et l’heure, et l’institution réchauffe les plats à au moins 72 °C avant de les servir. Avant la première course, nous nous annonçons au Laboratoire cantonal de Berne.
Il cibo è sicuro?
È la cosa più importante per noi. Il cibo resta caldo o freddo, viaggia per la via più breve in contenitori isotermici e non viene mai stoccato. Annotiamo ogni consegna con temperatura e ora, e la struttura riscalda il cibo ad almeno 72 °C prima di servirlo. Prima della prima corsa ci annunciamo al Laboratorio cantonale di Berna.
Is the food safe?
That matters most to us. The food stays hot or cold, travels the shortest way in insulated boxes and is never stored. We record every handover with temperature and time, and the facility reheats the food to at least 72 °C before serving it. Before the first ride we register with the Cantonal Laboratory of Bern.
Wer haftet, wenn etwas schiefgeht?
Jede Seite für ihren Teil: die Küche dafür, dass das Essen bei der Übergabe einwandfrei ist, wir für den Transport. Das halten wir vor dem Start mit jeder Küche und jeder Einrichtung schriftlich fest.
Qui est responsable si quelque chose tourne mal ?
Chacun pour sa part : la cuisine pour que les plats soient en parfait état au moment de la remise, nous pour le transport. Nous le mettons par écrit avec chaque cuisine et chaque institution avant de commencer.
Chi è responsabile se qualcosa va storto?
Ognuno per la sua parte: la cucina perché il cibo sia in perfetto stato al momento della consegna, noi per il trasporto. Lo mettiamo per iscritto con ogni cucina e ogni struttura prima di iniziare.
Who is liable if something goes wrong?
Each side for its own part: the kitchen for the food being in perfect condition at handover, we for the transport. We put this in writing with every kitchen and every facility before we start.
Bekommt ein Restaurant dafür Steuervorteile?
Nein, das sagen wir lieber ehrlich. Was ein Restaurant bekommt: weniger Abfall und das gute Gefühl, dass das Essen gegessen wird.
Un restaurant obtient-il des avantages fiscaux ?
Non, nous préférons le dire honnêtement. Ce qu’un restaurant y gagne : moins de déchets et la satisfaction de savoir que la nourriture est mangée.
Un ristorante ottiene vantaggi fiscali?
No, preferiamo dirlo onestamente. Quello che un ristorante ci guadagna: meno rifiuti e la soddisfazione di sapere che il cibo viene mangiato.
Does a restaurant get tax benefits?
No, we’d rather be honest about that. What a restaurant gets: less waste and the good feeling that the food gets eaten.

Wohin geht das Essen?
Zu sozialen Einrichtungen in Bern, die Menschen in schwierigen Lagen verpflegen, zum Beispiel Notschlafstellen. Gekochtes Essen bringen wir nicht in öffentliche Kühlschränke – dort ist es nicht erlaubt.

À des institutions sociales à Berne qui nourrissent des personnes en difficulté, par exemple des hébergements d’urgence. Nous ne mettons pas de plats cuisinés dans les frigos publics – ce n’est pas autorisé.

Where does the food go?
To social facilities in Bern that feed people in difficult situations, emergency shelters for example. We don’t put cooked food into public fridges – it isn’t allowed there.
Warum gebt ihr das Essen nicht direkt an Menschen auf der Strasse?
Die Einrichtungen kennen die Menschen, haben eine Küche zum Aufwärmen und wissen, was sicher ist. Im Test geben wir das Essen deshalb nur an Einrichtungen weiter.
Pourquoi ne donnez-vous pas directement la nourriture aux gens dans la rue ?
Les institutions connaissent les personnes, ont une cuisine pour réchauffer et savent ce qui est sûr. Pendant le test, nous ne remettons donc la nourriture qu’à des institutions.
Perché non date il cibo direttamente alle persone per strada?
Le strutture conoscono le persone, hanno una cucina per riscaldare e sanno che cosa è sicuro. Durante la prova quindi diamo il cibo solo alle strutture.
Why don’t you give the food directly to people on the street?
The facilities know the people, have a kitchen to reheat and know what is safe. During the test we therefore pass food only to facilities.

Werden Freiwillige bezahlt?
Nein, bei uns arbeiten alle freiwillig, auch der Vorstand. Wer für den Verein etwas bezahlt, bekommt es mit Beleg zurück.
Les bénévoles sont-ils payés ?
Non, chez nous tout le monde travaille bénévolement, comité compris. Qui avance de l’argent pour l’association est remboursé sur justificatif.
I volontari sono pagati?
No, da noi tutti lavorano come volontari, anche il comitato. Chi paga qualcosa per l’associazione viene rimborsato con la ricevuta.
Are volunteers paid?
No, everyone works as a volunteer, the board included. Anyone who pays for something on behalf of the association gets it back with a receipt.
Wie finanziert ihr euch?
Mit Beiträgen von Stiftungen, mit Spenden und mit Sponsoren. Es gibt keinen Investor und keine Werbung. Für 2027 rechnen wir mit rund 6700 Franken; fast die Hälfte davon ist ein eigenes Lastenrad, falls uns niemand eines schenkt.

Grâce aux contributions de fondations, aux dons et aux sponsors. Il n’y a ni investisseur ni publicité. Pour 2027, nous comptons environ 6700 francs ; près de la moitié est un vélo-cargo à nous, si personne ne nous en offre un.

How are you funded?
Through contributions from foundations, donations and sponsors. There is no investor and no advertising. For 2027 we expect about 6,700 francs; almost half of that is our own cargo bike, in case nobody donates one.
Kann ich spenden?
Das Spendenkonto eröffnen wir in den nächsten Wochen. Bis dahin hilft uns jede Nachricht, jeder Kontakt zu einer Küche und jedes Weitersagen. Ob Spenden von den Steuern abgezogen werden können, muss die Steuerverwaltung noch entscheiden.
Puis-je faire un don ?
Nous ouvrirons le compte pour les dons dans les prochaines semaines. D’ici là, chaque message, chaque contact avec une cuisine et chaque recommandation nous aide. Si les dons pourront être déduits des impôts, l’administration fiscale doit encore le décider.
Posso fare una donazione?
Apriremo il conto per le donazioni nelle prossime settimane. Fino ad allora ci aiuta ogni messaggio, ogni contatto con una cucina e ogni passaparola. Se le donazioni si potranno dedurre dalle tasse lo deve ancora decidere l’amministrazione fiscale.
Can I donate?
We will open the donation account in the coming weeks. Until then, every message, every contact with a kitchen and every recommendation helps. Whether donations can be deducted from taxes is still for the tax administration to decide.

Do you collect data about me?
No. No cookies, no ads, no tracking. Your location is worked out only on your device. We only count, anonymously, how often a tool is opened each day; you can switch that off in the legal notice.
