Galleries in Bern: art without an entrance fee

Besides the works on the street, Bern has many places where art is shown. Galleries and art spaces are often smaller than you think and easy to miss.

The map “Kunst in Bern” lists around 50 galleries, art spaces and museums. The details come from OpenStreetMap and are reloaded every week. You find them under the filter “Galleries & museums”, as dark dots.

Galleries and art spaces

Some examples from the map: Galerie Kornfeld on Laupenstrasse, Kunstraum Dreiviertel on Monbijoustrasse, Galerie da Mihi on Gerechtigkeitsgasse, the Stadtgalerie, Galerie 3000, SOON, SalviArte and Galerie ArchivArte. Art is also shown at the Progr, the Grosse Halle and the Dampfzentrale.

Does it cost anything?

You can simply walk into many galleries. Opening hours are often short and change with every exhibition. So check the website first; for most of them the map has a link. Museums such as the Kunstmuseum Bern, the Kunsthalle Bern or the Zentrum Paul Klee list opening hours and entrance fees on their own website.

When are museums in Bern free?

With “Gratis ins Museum”, the museums are free on the Saturdays in August. At the Zentrum Paul Klee, children and young people up to 16 get into the exhibitions for free every Sunday. The KulturLegi Kanton Bern gives you reductions. These offers are listed with source and check date in Free things to do in Bern, together with everything else in Bern that costs nothing.

A gallery is missing?

With “Suggest a place” on the map you can report a gallery. Every suggestion is checked by hand before it appears.
