What is free in Bern

Swimming, watching the bears, going to a museum: lots of things in Bern cost nothing. Gratis Bern collects these offers on one page, each with a source.

How it works

  1. Open Gratis Bern. The offers are listed under “Always free”, “Free on certain days” and “Heavily reduced”.

Always free

The BärenPark on the Aare by the Nydeggbrücke, public parks such as the Rosengarten and the Elfenau, plus fountains, barbecue spots and public bookcases. The Aare pools Marzilibad and Lorrainebad charge no entrance fee, but only during the bathing season. In 2026 it ran from May to 13 September. At the Marzili, the second stage of the renovation has been under way since 14 September 2026 and is expected to last until May 2027.

On certain days

With “Free to the museum” (Gratis ins Museum), museums are free on Saturdays in August. At the Zentrum Paul Klee, children and young people up to 16 get into the exhibitions for free every Sunday. Heavily reduced are offers with the KulturLegi Kanton Bern and the Fünfliber-Werkstatt at the Creaviva children's museum. Offers with a date are hidden after the last day and listed as over.

Who the page is for

For families on a small budget, for newcomers and for everyone who did not know yet. Sources include Sportamt Bern, Tierpark Bern, the city of Bern, gratisinsmuseum.ch, zpk.org, kulturlegi.ch and OpenStreetMap. With the calendar subscription, new dates are added by themselves. For Android and Google there is also a calendar file.
