What this app does

Secondhand, swapping and giving in Bern: map

Give away, swap, buy second hand, drop off clothes: charity shops, swap places and give boxes in Bern on one map. Free, no tracking.

Bern circular map brings together on one map the places in Bern where you can give things away, swap, buy second hand or drop off clothes. There are three groups: give box / food sharing, second hand / charity shop and clothes collection. On the map you will find, for example, the Bärner Brocki, Emmaus Bern Brockenhaus & Communauté, the Lorraine Brocki and clothes collection points run by Texaid or Tell-Tex.

At the top you switch the three groups on and off one by one; the number next to each shows how many points it has. With “Nearest point” the app uses your location to find the nearest place among the groups switched on, shows the distance and calculates the walking route with the walking time. Tap a dot to see its name, operator and, where recorded, its opening hours.

Under “Data and notes” you will find the public fridges of Madame Frigo in the city of Bern, for example at PROGR, Bibliothek Länggasse or Berner Generationenhaus; they are on the map too. You bring surplus food that is still fine to eat and take something yourself. Allowed are, among other things, fruit, vegetables and bread; not allowed are meat, fish, alcohol and opened or processed products. A team of volunteers from the neighbourhood looks after each fridge.

The fridge locations come from Madame Frigo, all other points from OpenStreetMap (ODbL). There is no tracking; only the routing service gets your location, and only the start and destination for the walking route.
