Background

“ohne Titel” (untitled) is a painted wood carving by Serge Brignoni from 1948, in the library of the Tiefenauspital in Bern. Brignoni, born near Chiasso in 1903 and died in Zollikofen in 2002, worked as a painter, sculptor and collector. The family moved to Bern in 1907, and from 1919 he attended the Kunstgewerbeschule, where he studied life drawing under Victor Surbek. The works of Wassily Kandinsky had a lasting influence on his art.
